The following volume presents the outcome of an international conference held at the Danish Institute, Rome, on January 21-22, 2013. The conference was part of the project "Fiction and Figuration. Studies in High and Late Medieval Literature", a collaboration between Danish and Swedish scholars oriented towards fiction theory as it emerges from prologues, poetriae, accessus ad auctores or scattered declarations within poetic or epistolary texts from the twelfth through the fourteen centuries.
